About Transparent Council

Transparent Council is built by Transparent Britain, a UK data-processing company that makes public-interest data accessible, searchable, and comparable — starting with local authority spending.

What we do

Every English council publishes statutory disclosures of its spending, but the raw files are inconsistent, scattered across hundreds of council websites, and hard to compare. We collect those disclosures, clean and normalise them, and put them behind a single searchable interface so anyone can trace suppliers, categories, and spending patterns without wrestling with the source files themselves.

Who it's for

  • Residents checking how their council spends public money.
  • Journalists identifying repeat suppliers, spending spikes, and stories worth investigating.
  • Researchers comparing spending patterns across councils.
  • Campaigners and councillors holding local decision-makers to account.

Independence

Transparent Britain is a politically neutral data company. We don't take a position on any council, party, or candidate — we make the underlying spending data accessible so that others can draw their own conclusions.
